Shimla is the capital city of Himachal Pradesh. In 1864, Shimla was declared the summer capital of the British Raj in India. A popular tourist destination, Shimla is often referred to as the "Queen of Hills," a term coined by the British. Located in the north-west Himalayas at an average altitude of 2,205 metres (7,234 ft), the city of Shimla, draped in forests of pine, rhododendron, and oak, experiences pleasant summers and cold, snowy winters. The city is famous for its buildings styled in tudorbethan and neo-gothic architecture dating from the colonial era. Shimla is connected to the city of Kalka by one of the longest narrow gauge railway routes still operating in India,[2] the Kalka-Shimla Railway. Shimla is approximately 100 km (68 miles) from Chandigarh, the nearest major city, and 365 km (226.8 miles) from New Delhi, the national capital. The city is named after the goddess Shyamala Devi, an incarnation of the Hindu Goddess Kali.

The fact file containing information about Dalhousie presents an extensive range of features associated with the place. The history of Dalhousie dates back to the 1800s. In the year 1850 Lt. Col. Napier discovered a scenic spot in Chamba Valley which in 1854 was named after Lord Dalhousie, the then Viceroy of India. Previously a part of the Kangra district, Dalhousie was shifted to Gurdaspur district in the year 1861. Finally, in the year 1966 Dalhousie became a part of the state of Himachal Pradesh.

is a union territory of India that serves as the capital of two states, Punjab and Haryana. The name Chandigarh translates as "The Fort of Chandi". The name is from an ancient temple called Chandi Mandir, devoted to the Hindu goddess Chandi, in the city.[3] In Sikh philosophy, 'Chandi' is derived from 'Chandi di Var', which is a Punjabi poem written by Guru Gobind Singh. This Var (ballad) is popularly sung by the Sikh soldiers on their way to battlefield. It is occasionally referred to as The City Beautiful.

With a population of 1,686,976 (2010 est.), it is one of the most populous cities in Uttar Pradesh and the 19th most populous in India.[1]Because 80 percent of the city's sewage flows into Yamuna River, it is 20th most polluted city in India.[2] Agra can also refer to the administrative districtthat has its headquarters in Agra city.
